Dental veneers

Porcelain dental veneers are thin shells of reduced thickness that are fixed to the outer surface of existing teeth. They are securely bonded in place and are primarily used to restore the appearance of the teeth, giving the patient an aesthetic smile and improved dentition for many years.

The advantages of porcelain veneers are numerous:

  1. Resistance: Despite their thinness, porcelain veneers are robust due to the properties of this material.
  2. Correction of dental defects: They can be used to resolve various aesthetic problems such as stained, discoloured, broken or worn teeth, resulting in a more harmonious smile.
  3. Preservation of dental vitality: Ceramic veneers preserve the vitality of the underlying teeth.
  4. Preservation of dental tissue: They preserve natural dental tissue, limiting the need to remove part of the dental structure during fitting.
  5. Colour stability: The natural colour of the teeth is preserved without changing over time.
  6. Durability: Porcelain veneers are wear-resistant, offering a long-term solution for improving dental appearance.

The recommended indications for dental veneers are as follows:

  1. For fractured or cracked teeth in the front area.
  2. To restore teeth that have been stained, discoloured, deformed or slightly damaged by wear.
  3. To close diastemas (spaces between teeth).
  4. To correct the appearance of slightly misaligned teeth (although an orthodontic consultation is recommended in the first instance).
  5. To restore moderately worn teeth.
  6. To improve the appearance of dark teeth that cannot be lightened by tooth whitening alone.
  7. To harmonise levels and size differences between teeth.
  8. For patients who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their teeth, veneers can be used to reshape a smile by, for example, increasing the size of the teeth.

When having dental veneers:

  1. Maintain good dental hygiene by brushing regularly and flossing.
  2. Avoid foods and drinks that can stain dental veneers.
  3. Avoid hard or sticky foods that could damage veneers.
  4. Avoid biting into non-food objects.
  5. Follow your dentist's recommendations and have regular check-ups.Ha
