Dental Implants

A dental implant is an artificial root made of titanium that replaces a lost or extracted tooth root. It is inserted into the jawbone to anchor a removable or fixed dental prosthesis.

Why titanium?

Titanium is the material most commonly used to manufacture implants. It is perfectly biocompatible, which means that no intolerance reactions have been observed to date. Numerous studies have shown that bone tends to fuse naturally with titanium, a phenomenon known as osseointegration.

This fusion creates a solid bond between the implant and the bone, resisting the forces of chewing and offering long-term reliability. Dental implants are a reliable, cost-effective alternative to bridges or removable appliances.

Who are dental implants for?

  • People who have lost one or more teeth and wish to replace them permanently and stably.
  • People who need to replace all their teeth, in one or both jaws.
  • People looking for solid support for removable dentures, such as those held in place by press studs.
  • Those who cannot tolerate traditional removable dentures and want a more comfortable, functional alternative.

Who can benefit from implant treatment?

Implant treatment can be offered to anyone whose bone growth is complete and who is in good general health. Age is not a determining factor, as long as the patient's medical condition allows the procedure and the jawbone is adequate to receive the implant.

If the amount of bone available in the jaw is insufficient, a bone graft may be necessary. This surgical procedure increases bone volume to provide adequate support for the implant. Our specialist dentist can give you detailed information about this process.

Advantages of dental implants

Protection of adjacent teeth

By replacing a missing tooth, implants prevent damage to neighbouring teeth.

Prevention of bone atrophy

Implants prevent the bone loss that can follow tooth loss, giving complete dentures greater stability.

Natural aesthetics

Implant-supported teeth look and function like natural teeth.

Preserved facial shape

By preventing bone loss, implants help preserve the natural shape of the face and prevent premature ageing.

Comfort and function

Eat and drink normally, improving your everyday quality of life.

Longevity

Latest-generation implants are more stable, comfortable and durable than traditional prostheses.

How treatment works: two stages

Stage 1 — Implant placement

The dental surgeon prepares the infrastructure consisting of the implants. This phase generally lasts 2–3 days; the placement itself takes 1–2 days depending on complexity, with a post-operative check-up the day after. Osseointegration — the fusion of implants with the jawbone — then takes 3–4 months. During this first stage, patients generally stay in Turkey for 3–5 days.

Stage 2 — Final teeth

Once osseointegration is complete, an impression is taken and sent to the laboratory, which manufactures the bridge or crowns. Temporary crowns are replaced with the final ceramic crowns, bridges or dentures. This stage generally requires a stay in Turkey of 6–7 days.

Questions about this treatment

How long do I need to stay in Istanbul for dental implants?

Treatment has two visits: around 3–5 days for implant placement, then 6–7 days for the final crowns or bridge after 3–4 months of healing.

Is there an age limit for dental implants?

No. Implants can be placed once bone growth is complete, provided your general health and jawbone allow it.

What if I don't have enough bone?

A bone graft or sinus lift can increase bone volume so that an implant can be placed securely.
